It’s a noble cause: fighting to end abortion!
At first, it felt like abortion could be ended as long as we, Christians, could argue our cause effectively. But then that didn’t seem enough. So, we adapted to the evolving technology to use ultrasounds to show clear images of life inside the womb.
And yet abortion persists.
So what happens when all our best efforts and ideas fall short? Without realizing it, we can start to build our own kingdom and rest on our own ability of persuasion…and then we crumble when we realize that was never enough.
We can start focusing so much on saving the life of the unborn that we lose the heart of God for the women sitting right in front of us; our eyes become blinded to the mom who is broken and spiritually separated from God. The women who are in crises, facing unplanned pregnancies and considering abortion, are not our projects. They are hurting and broken, and they need an encounter with the love and presence of God.
That’s what changed my life 11 years ago after I had a baby at 19 years old, and I believe that Jesus still wants to encounter every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. I believe that evangelizing in pro-life ministry is less about how much you can learn and more about how surrendered you are to the Holy Spirit. It’s not about us being in control; it’s about Him being in control and allowing Him to move and speak through you.
By sharing my testimony and the gospel to women who are in crisis I have seen more women encounter God and choose life because of the convicting power of the Holy Spirit.
It’s time to come back to the simplicity of being filled with His spirit and the power of the gospel that still changes lives. Sin is still the issue, and Jesus is still the answer for every problem.
